Don’t miss the chance to tell the Department of Industry, Science and Resources about how you use AI in your business and the costs and benefits of regulatory change.
As practitioners in the areas of AI governance, privacy, cyber security and data governance, at elevenM we see first-hand the impact of regulations on Australian organisations.
These impacts can be constructive, with regulations providing clarity and even a roadmap on how organisations can practically manage digital risks and protect their customers and other stakeholders.
We also see instances where regulations can be burdensome, or at odds with other regulations faced by an organisation. They can also sometimes just be vague and confusing.
As we progress on the journey towards safe and responsible AI in Australia, as well as drawing on research into AI harms, assessing global best-practice, and consulting with experts in the field, we argue it’s also beneficial to consult with the organisations that will be impacted by these regulations.
We welcome that the Federal Government is looking to draw on the input of AI developers and deployers (the latter meaning organisations that will use AI – which is increasingly most, if not all, of them!) to help shape its approach to AI regulations.
Specifically, the Department of Industry, Science and Resources is now seeking input to the “Proposed Mandatory Guardrails for AI in High-Risk Settings”, via this survey.
The Government guardrails are being considered for both the development and deployment of high-risk AI in Australia, and will focus on testing, transparency and accountability requirements.
Through the survey, the Department wants to better understand the impact these proposed regulations will have on Australian businesses. It’s also expected that the survey will help identify the costs and benefits of regulatory change.
We encourage all our clients and any organisations planning to use AI to complete the survey. It should take 15-30 minutes. The survey closes on 29 November 2024.
